HEROES

Without a doubt, one of the viewing highlights of the year has to be the wonderful comic book inspired HEROES.
Some seriously cool acting talent (both young and old) contrive to make this one of the most enjoyable watches of the 21st century.
Developing slowly over its long 23 episode run, Heroes allows its characters room to breathe and introduces a whole host of weird and wonderful super powers.
Heroes uses its comic book structure well but never crosses into X-Men territory, there are no all out battles between Super heroes and Super villains, this TV show is much more subtle. Each character faces their own demons as they come to grips with their extraordinary powers and the battle to save the world is only an afterthought.
There are no miraculous escapes from death, in fact a whole host of main characters fail to see it through to the final credits and this sense of reality is the glue that holds the show together.
You can trawl the Internet for years and people have many different views of Heroes, some good, some bad but this is a show that offers pure entertainment, you can pick holes in it and you can compare it to other episodic American dramas like Lost and 24 but when it comes to the crunch, Heroes just has too much going for it not to be head and shoulders above the rest.
One slight moan, it would have been nice to see a little bit more of Christopher Eccleston as the Invisible Man but you can`t have everything.
